For the Eurovision Song Contest 1999, held in Jerusalem, Israel, France entered "Je Veux Donner Ma Voix" to compete, performed by Nayah.

For the first time since 1987, the French held a national final to select their entry. The final was held on March 2, 1999 at L'Olympia in Paris. It was hosted by Julien Lepers and Karen Cheryl. There were 12 songs in the final, with the winning song chosen by a 50/50 mix of televoting and "expert" jury. This led to a tie between Nayah and Ginie Line, which was solved by giving the televoting score precedence, which meant that Nayah won. As well as French, there were also songs in Arabic, Basque and Hebrew.
